Manufacturing Workforce Summit Planned for October
The Manufacturing Institute runs the fifth annual event
Manufacturers often compete for the same workers, but that doesn’t mean they can’t collaborate as they build their current and future workforces. That is part of the idea behind the Manufacturing Institute’s (MI) annual Workforce Summit planned for this fall.
Scheduled for October 26–28, the summit, which is called “Skills at Scale: Delivering America’s Competitive Advantage,” will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
“Workforce development requires an entire ecosystem of diverse stakeholders to be successful,” MI says on its website. “The Workforce Summit will be an opportunity for the entire ecosystem to collaborate and learn from each other. Individuals who should attend include manufacturing leaders from operations, human resources, and workforce development roles; economic development and association professionals; education and training providers; government officials; and community partners.”
The conference will include various breakout sessions focused on workforce challenges, including talent attraction and recruitment, onboarding and retention, workforce planning and career pathways, and AI and advanced technology skills.
Presentations will include one from 3M and GPS Education Partners that looks at how they co-designed a scalable talent pipeline. McKinsey & Company will give a presentation on building an AI-ready workforce. And a presentation from Dow is titled “From Cost Control to Capability Advantage: Scaling Skills and the Total Workforce for Manufacturing Performance.” Those are just some of the sessions. A fuller agenda can be found online.
“Industry leaders, practitioners, and experts will share practical approaches for building strong talent pipelines, developing technical and digital skills, and supporting a workforce prepared for rapid technological change,” according to MI’s webpage on the conference. “Across keynotes, case studies, and peer discussions, attendees will learn what leading manufacturers are doing to improve retention, expand training, and create work environments that support long-term success.”
The summit begins in the afternoon of October 26 and ends at noon on Oct. 28.
Registration costs $890 before July 17 and then increases to $1,190. The fee includes all meeting sessions and materials, as well as some networking events. More details on registration, hotels, and transportation can be found on the website’s registration page.
